Specimen grayling warms a freezing float session in the Scottish borders.
A trip north to the Scottish borders proved worth the effort for Yorkshire angler Dave tipping, after the respected specimen angler found his chosen target feeding well.
Targeting grayling on a border river, Dave had to fight with his mainline freezing in his rod ring to be able to make the most of his chosen waggler tactics. But make the most of it he did, and soon the 56-year-old had this stunning 3lb specimen nestling in his landing net.
“It was a biting cold day and I had quite a few problems with the line freezing, but I was confident of catching as it was the same swim that produced my pb grayling of 3lb 4oz eight year ago,” Dave told Total Coarse Fishing.
Dave’s winning tactic, which also proved the down fall of another chunky ‘lady’ of 2lb 9oz, was float fishing dendrobaena worm on a size 18 hook with 3.3lb mainline.
