Lull in bad weather sees River Kennet produce monster.
The biggest barbel of the year so far has been banked at a massive 17lb 2oz.
Caught from a stretch of the River Kennet, the huge specimen was brought to the net by 21-year-old angler Roman Vann following a break in recent bad weather.
“I was fishing the river inbetween snow falls,” the Hampshire-based angler told Total Coarse Fishing. “We had a milder spell and the river looked great, although I didn’t think I’d get a new personal best, especially at this size.”
Roman’s fish was caught using a heavily spiced piece of luncheon meat presented on a size 5 Nash Fang hook held in place by a 3.5oz lead.
